HOW DO I SET UP GMAIL WITH MSGTAG?

NOTE: Gmail is only supported in MSGTAG Status.

MSGTAG works with any mail client supported by Gmail. Setting up gmail is a little tricky but luckily only needs to be done just once. This tutorial assumes that you already have another mail account set up with MSGTAG (using port 7362) and that you've already configured Gmail for use with your Mail Client (if you haven't, go to the gmail support pages and select the appropriate tutorial for your mail client.)

1. Open up MSGTAG and select the Options -> Tools -> Mail Account menu. Click on the Add... button. You'll be presented with a step-by-step setup process.
2. Let's put gmail in as the account name but you can name the account anything you like. Click on the Next button.
3. In the next screen you are asked to enter an SMTP server and a SMTP port. Enter smtp.gmail.com for the SMTP server and 465 for the SMTP port. Press the Next button to continue.
4. On the next screen you are asked to choose a port for MSGTAG to "listen" on. Unless otherwise instructed by MSGTAG Support, leave this as whatever is there by default. If you've got another Mail Account set up with MSGTAG this will probably be displayed as 7363. Press Next to continue.
5. The final screen gives some instructions for setting up your mail client. Ignore these for now as we'll use some slightly different instructions very shortly. Click on Finish to continue.
6. You should now see a new Mail Account in the list. We're almost done setting up MSGTAG. The last thing to do is to click on the gmail account in the list and then click on Properties....
7. Now you're presented with all the information you've already entered along with an advanced setting: Secure Connection. Set this to SSL and the whole thing should look the same as in the following screenshot:
   

You're all done in MSGTAG! Now, open up your mail client for the last bit. For the purposes of this tutorial we'll use Outlook 2003 as our email client but the settings are the same for all mail clients.

1. Start up Outlook 2003 and open the Tools -> Email Accounts... menu and then click on the View or change existing email accounts and then click Next.
2. Select yout gmail account from the list and then click Change....
3. On the screen that opens, change your Outgoing SMTP server to localhost as in the screenshot:
   
4. Nearly there! Click on the More Settings button and then on the Advanced tab. On this screen, change the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field to 7363 (or the same as what is set in MSGTAG in point #4 above). Uncheck the "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)" option. The screen should now look like it does in the screenshot:
   
5. Click Ok, Next, then Finish. You're all done!

Now any emails you send using your Gmail account should show up in the MSGTAG Status 2 dashboard and you'll receive tagging notifications like any other account.
